Senior Process Mechanical Engineer (Water / Wastewater)

Markham, Kitchener-Waterloo, Niagara-on-the-Lake, or Ottawa

 Qualifications:

• P.Eng + Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering; Post-graduate degree (technical) preferred.

• 10+ years of multi-discipline detailed process mechanical design and plant hydraulics experience in the municipal water sector using traditional design-bid-build delivery. Alternative progressive delivery model experience an asset.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to clearly summarize complex findings.

• Proven ability to deliver design projects with multi-discipline teams across multiple offices.

• Active involvement in industry technical or professional organizations.

 Responsibilities:

 Technical Authority for Water Infrastructure/Engineer of Record: Lead full project lifecycle process mechanical technical and design delivery of complex multi-discipline water, wastewater, and resource recovery systems - process hydraulics, pumping and treatment equipment selection, technical reporting, cost estimation, preparation of contract documents, and discipline-specific construction support - ensuring designs are efficient, constructable, and defensible.

Process Mechanical Integration & Design Quality Leadership: Ensure tight integration between process intent, process mechanical execution (piping, materials, equipment, constructability) and multi-discipline design considerations, reducing risk, rework, and lifecycle cost while elevating overall design quality across the broader design team.

Construction Phase & Field Design Support: Supports construction through shop drawing reviews, site coordination, and commissioning assistance - building practical understanding of how process mechanical designs perform and are installed in the field.

Technical Review & Risk Mitigation: Provide senior QA/QC reviews on critical water projects challenging assumptions, identifying failure modes, and applying lessons learned to prevent costly construction and operational issues.

Optimization of Existing Infrastructure & Asset Performance: Lead assessments and optimization of existing treatment plants and pumping systems using operational data to improve reliability, energy efficiency, and capacity—directly supporting clients’ infrastructure renewal priorities.

Mentorship & Practice Capability Building: Strengthen the Water Practice by mentoring our future leaders, transferring practical design judgment, standardizing approaches, and raising technical competency across our offices.

Salary Range: $125,000 – $175,000.

The final salary for positions is determined by the candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and work location. Our client is committed to offering competitive compensation and adheres to relevant pay transparency legislation.
