The team will focus largely on road design across an extensive geographic area. Projects will be variable and may range from small road improvements to large scale regional road improvements. You will provide in-house road and site work design services to other departments the water/wastewater group and fuel storage/distribution group. The team assists clients from concept to completion.
Role Reporting to the Vice President, Transportation, this position will direct a team of engineers, CETs, EITs and other technical professionals (but is not limited to) carrying out the following tasks;
Work with senior staff and client leads to establish overall design strategies and approaches for projects;
Prepare functional, preliminary and detailed engineering designs for roadway design projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D or Microstation In Roads;
Prepare cost estimates, tender packages and project documents; Support the Transportation Group in meeting client needs on projects, including client contact as required;
Assisting in project budgeting and preparation of proposals; Work with the leadership team on client development; Ensure quality and timely delivery of project deliverables to meet the client’s needs; Lead the design implementation and day to day project coordination with overall project team;
Support project/client managers in establishing appropriate timelines for deliverables and work with design teams, throughout the offices, to drive the schedule; Provide mentorship and training to junior and intermediate engineers and other technical staff and participate actively and formally in their development plans;
Work with other Senior Designers and CAD leaders to provide input to on-going process improvements for design output; and Other duties as assigned.
Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications Registered Professional Engineer (Manitoba/Ontario with 11 years minimum of licensure, in good standing with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (AAPEGM) and l Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
Graduation from a University program in Civil Engineering or similar civil designrelated education. Ten years of design and project management, preferably in the context of road projects. Knowledge of road design criteria including Regional and Local Municipal Government design practices and permitting requirements, Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) guidelines, Manitoba Provincial Standards, City Of Winnipeg Standards and Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS).
Knowledge of road, sewer and water main construction practices. Experience with overseeing and coordinating sub-consultants, procurement, design, construction and commissioning. Strong analytical skills and data management with proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite of programs including MS Project for creation of detailed project schedules. Thorough knowledge of municipal and provincial review processes and standards for permitting and approvals.
Effective technical writer and oral communicator.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently, leading staff teams
A valid Manitoba drivers’ license and vehicle. e following experience and skills are considered additional assets: Formal project management training, (PMP designation or similar) Field services
Strong knowledge of road design sewer and mater main construction practices.
